Yes, this is a spoiler so back up if you dont want to read much more!

So what was Betruger? Obviously some sort of Demon but how does that fit into the plot? Was he a demon that lived on earth, but took a job on mars as the leading scientist that would eventually discover his own race and overthrown mankind!??!
I dont think he was possessed or anything, since he was calling the shots and his laughs made the complex shake as you walked through it.
Sure, at the end you see a dragon's mouth with his face attached to its tongue (and oh yes, that tongue laughs at you), but other then the fact that it elludes to an expansion or a part 2, what exactley does that mean?!?
On a side note, if i were to pick one demon to 'blend in' I don't know if I'd pick a lazy eyed bald creepy guy like Betruger, I'd sooner pick a Spider Lady that can move things with her mind.

Haha, yeah here is what I gathered from various forms.
That creatures name is Maledict (or something like that) you can look up the texture files and it gives you the name.
Nobody knows what the deal with it is… they sure as hell didn’t explain what was going on. ID has stated they won’t make another game, but has also hinted at an expansion.
There are 3 theories going around now.
The first is that Betruger was all along that demon. The second is he got possessed by that demon somewhere along the line, and you see the result at the end. The last theory would be that Bertruger is being punished by that demon for failing to unleash hell permanently. Take your pick, but the first two leave room open for an expansion, the last doesn’t really (also keep in mind Bertruger was casting spells to turn marines into demons, that suggests the first option).
On the other issue is Sarge, he turned out to be a demon as well. Which asks the question what gives with him. On one hand he could have been turned to a demon against his will, on the other hand he could always have been a demon. Keep in mind Sarges instructions (ie call the fleet) fight right into Bertrugers wishes for hell to reach earth. Also keep in mind that you don’t see Sarge after the mishap. So perhaps the two of them were on the same side all along.

Amidst all the various Doom ports and expansions, we are starting up on our next game. It will have a new rendering engine, which will be keeping me busy for a while, but the only other thing we are saying for now is that it won't be a sequel to any of our previous work. We have a really solid team that did a lot of maturing through Doom's development, so I have high hopes that it won't be another four year odyssey.

exactamundo, thats how i got that screen. hehe
in Delta 4 at the beginning Betruger is walking around with some Zombies, towards the middle he teleports away from you, and at the end he watches you as you battle 2 Hellknights by the Teleport to hell.

People who spoil the end of a great game such as this are not worthy to be players of DOOM 3. It's like telling someone the end of a movie and they have not seen it. I bet you guys used god mode to finish because you couldn't take the heat.

why the hell would you say that?
who caress if the cheated or not but yea it is kind of anoying when some one tells you the end of the game.
but they did say if you did not want to spoil the game to not read it.

In a certain pda, and audio log states: "After Betruger came back through the teleporter, he changed. He looked the same, he talked the same, he just changed."
So I'm going to have to go with the theory that betruger was posessed by hell to release them into the base.

he got "job", a king job, a open place just to take(no need to interview or something), easy no need for cv or schooling(except u must be evil). ofcourse u would change if u get easy job with alot of cash coming for u, in betrugers case he got power and might of the "hell" dimension and it rised into his head, thinking that he is part of hell(well he had the power to become demon itself too) same happened(i think) many centuries ago in doom3 which spelled doom to ancient civilization, in this doom3 story: human ancestors.

He probally got changed a long time ago like he probally found the portal to hell and like got chnaged to evil, I liked it when he got to be the tounge of that one monster I always foret what hes called
