Weapon: Fists
Primary Fire Slow melee attack that does minimal damage.
Unless you're horrible with Ammo you'll never have much of a need for your fists in the Single Player of Doom 3. Other then using the Berserk powerup, the last place you'll ever want to be is in front of a Hellknight or Archvile with your fists doing the damage.

Weapon: Chainsaw
Primary Fire Melee Weapon with higher damage / rate of fire then your primary fists.
If you're bad with ammunition conservation you may eventually resort to the Chainsaw. Though going through the Single Player didn't call for many uses for the Chainsaw, it sure is a great novetly weapon to play around with.
While the Chainsaw may have been pretty useful at the early levels by the time you obtain it the monsters call for more fire power and ranged attacks then going in with the Chainsaw.

Weapon: Pistol
Primary Fire Ranged attack that does minimal damage but allows for decent accuracy with a moderate rate of fire.
While the pistol is the weakest of the ranged weapons it stays somewhat useful through the Single Player mode. Since the Pistol uses different ammunition then the Chaingun it's always a great Zombie Killer when the lower forms of zombies present themselves.
The big positive for using the Pistol is you've generally have a great deal of ammunition for it. It's not a horrible weapon for finishing off monsters that simply dont have many hitpoints left but it's probably more efficient to go with the Macinegun.

Weapon: Shotgun
Primary Fire Single burst of shells from short range. Does more damage if the target is closer and can do severe damage if the target is point blank.
The Shotgun takes you gloriously through the single player as a very useful weapon. While you get it early in the game, you'll find it more useful then most other weapons until you finish the game.
While ammo doesn't allow you to go through the game shotgun exclusively, you can come pretty damn close. Hellknights can be killed in 4 solid shots of the Shotgun and Revenants in 2 shots. Very versitile weapon but requires the user to be able to dodge projectiles at close range.

Weapon: Machine Gun
Primary Fire Automatic ranged weapon that allows for a constant rate of fire.
The Machinegun is another extremely useful weapon during Single Player and will remain useful through the duration of the game. While Hellknights and Archvile's demand more fire-power then a Machinegun, most other monsters can be taken down quite quickly from a Machinegun with good accuracy.
The small drawback is that the Machinegun doesn't hit very hard so you have to make the shots count, and because you only have a 60 bullets to fire before you reload, fights can get a little close seeing as though the reload on the Macinegun takes a small amount of time.

Weapon: Plasma Gun
Primary Fire Shoots low speed projectiles that do considerable damage to enemies.
The Plasma gun is one of your more powerful weapons. You get away from hitscan weapons and start firing projectiles to take down demon after demon.
While the Plasma's slow rate of fire is obvious in Multi-Player, in Single Player the monsters can never seem to move fast enough to dodge your endless stream of blue Plasma.
Plasma is good for killing anything higher then a low-grade zombie but should be shelfed during any of the final 3 boss fights.

Weapon: Chaingun
Primary Fire Fires bullets at very rapid pace and does considerable damage per bullet.
The most poweful of the automatic weapons and also has a high capacity for ammunition. The Chaingun really has the ability to tear lower demons to shreds and it can even take out some of the harder demons in decent times.
While the Chaingun has a very high rate of fire, it is noteworthy to mention that you'll be reloading very quickly and that with every reload you'll have to wait the extra second for the intial fire. Still, the pros heavily out-weigh the cons.
The Chaingun is your Lost Soul killer and sometimes your Cherub destroyer.

Weapon: Grenades
Primary Fire You hold them in hand for a period of time, toss em at a target and wait for the explosion. Excessive damage.
You can get interesting with strategies in Single Player by using the Hand Grenades, and if you choose, you can comfortably complete the Single Player without ever using the nades.
I've found that nades are most helpful when dealing with Chaingun Commandos or Z-Sec zombies that don't want to move. In addition, nades are a great way to blockade a hallway that will be filled with demons in a moment or two.

Weapon: Rocket Launcher
Primary Fire Fires a high speed projectile for extreme damage.
The Rocket Launcher is a specific use weapon in Single Player. Since the ammo isn't that plentiful you'll want to save your shots for certain enemies. Enemies like Hellknights, Archviles, Mancubus, Bosses are great targets for rockets. Basically anything that needs to be dead quick, should have a rocket flying at their face.

Weapon: BFG 9K
Primary Fire Fires a ball of Plasma that does extreme damage to a large area.
The BFG has the ability to hit multiple targets in the area with excessive damage. Once deployed the BFG will send out small beams to attack enemies in the area with damage over time until the explosion of the blast occurs dealing extreme damage.
The BFG is a very specific use weapon and should only pulled out for bosses or Archviles. While you can use it during other instances in the game there's simply not a lot of ammo, and you definatly dont wanna waste it.

Weapon: Soul Cube
Primary Fire Shoots a star-shaped object that drains health from the target and up to 1000 points of damage. It can deliver up to 99 health to the marine who fired it.
While it's the most devestating weapon in the game, it's also the most useful. Sure, you can go around plugging all the bigger demons with the Soul Cube and holding it away from the small demons but it can be more useful then that.
The Soul Cube is basically a portable Megahealth. Whenever the enemies have you in a corner and you're about to die, don't reach for the Plasma or Chaingu, get your cube out and kill an enemies with it. You should have a lot more, and tack up at least 1 kill towards the 5 you need to recharge it for the next shot.
